Even though I’m a hands-on artist, I still love to tap into that digital side of my career as an illustrator and graphic designer. Why not tap into the best of all those worlds? I started playing around with a number of drawing apps when I first received an iPad 2 way back in 2011. I had fun with a lot of apps and was trying to come up with a list of free or inexpensive apps that my graphics students could take advantage of for class and utilize for their careers. Did you know that you could do a whole website on the iPad alone?
Through that I came across the Procreate app and started to play with it. One of the best painting and illustration apps, many digital artists have an iPad these days with Pencil and do a great majority of their professional digital illustrations with it.
I just wanted to see what it could do. I was happy with the tools and customization of the app. Not only that, but it records every brushstroke so it can be output as a time-lapse drawing. So, check out this short demo of a magnolia flower I did, sitting waiting for my daughter at band practice one day.
