Many watercolor painters are into still life paintings of flowers in vases. That's not me. I just really like the patterns of nature, so that is the direction here. I also find it simpler and more direct to have a symmetric composition for things like these. What attracted me to this was its brilliant colors and contrasts, the natural pattern of things, and the texture of the spikiness of the plant. It also spoke to my love of tropical nature.
This piece was challenging to me. Understanding where everything was made me cautious so I took my time. On a piece like this I have multiple colors ready so I can have some gradients and blending working for me.
