I've done a similar composition of this sign before, but I've always wanted to do it bigger. The first one, Starlight 1, was purchased by a collector quite a while ago and I had lost track of the reference photos and sketches. I started trying to track down the references about three years ago and it's taken this long to actually located them. That's because it wasn't shot digitally, I actually had to find the prints of them.
I'm happy with the outcome. I wanted a lot of textures, angles, and have some fun with the star shape of the sign. This sign was demolished, also quite a while ago, so I'm particularly happy that I found my references. It's like I've preserved something in some way.
